Thompsons track

Historic track dating to pre-European times, upgraded during WWII. Shared use track for motorbikes, 4WDs, trampers, mountain bikers, horse riders. Council-managed with seasonal access. Clay surface, very slippery when wet. Steep sections. East side has large peat bogs (very challenging). Gates installed at entrance (Nov 2024) for seasonal control. Note: side tracks go onto private land — stay on main track. Closed to all vehicles approx. mid-May to late October/early November (winter closure for safety and environmental protection). Open summer months only.
